How to Protect Your PDF.
Secure your documents in three simple, private steps.
Upload PDF
Select the document you want to secure. It is loaded into your browser's private memory instantly.
Set Password
Enter a strong password. We recommend a mix of characters for maximum document security.
Encrypt & Save
Click 'Encrypt'. Your file is protected on your device and downloaded as a new secure PDF.
Standard Encryption
We use 128-bit RC4 encryption, compatible with all major PDF readers including Adobe Acrobat and mobile viewers.
Zero Server Interaction
The encryption happens on your machine. Your password never travels over the internet, keeping it 100% anonymous.
Access Controlled
Once applied, no one can view the contents of the PDF without providing the exact password you've set.
Security FAQ
What encryption level do you use?
We use standard 128-bit encryption compatible with PDF 1.4+ formats. This ensures your file is protected against unauthorized access while remaining readable across all platforms.
Can Toolspot recover my password?
No. Because the encryption happens entirely in your browser, we never see your password or your file. If you lose the password, we cannot unlock the file for you.
Is there a limit to how many files I can protect?
There are no limits! You can secure as many files as you need, entirely for free, with no file size caps beyond your system's memory.
Does protecting a PDF change its size?
Encryption adds a very small amount of metadata to the PDF header and encrypts the object stream, which may slightly increase file size by a few kilobytes.
